MARSHALL TALKS
The Open Up App
Imagine for a second, that it is raining heavily when you get home from an event, your worker has unloaded your powerchair from the vehicle, but, the attendant helping you forgot to put your wave remote on your chair, or the wave remote which I spoke about last month, needs new batteries and you forgot to tell someone. You start to wonder and wish there was another way to open the electric door on your house. Well wonder no more.
We at UTS have worked with two ladies from Ottawa who have developed the “Open up app” for easy entry when you need it the most! I have had the pleasure of being the first one who tested it and it is a game changer! The app has been contracted to be integrated into a few of the systems we use for the automatic opening, for the betterment of all and specifically for my community of people. This “Open up app” only works with my house door because it is linked to it. As the saying goes there is always an app for that.
I'm thankful that there are people with empathy and understanding in this world. People often confuse the words empathy and sympathy let me clear that up. Empathy means you have the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. Sympathy means ”feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune”
We are not looking for special treatment, we are all equal in everything we do we just do everything differently. The app has opened up a wide variety of options for accessibility for daily living and independence! I no longer have to worry about being stuck in the cold or in the rain and on the nice days I have a option to get out without having to ask anybody to open the door! Game Changer in my opinion! You have to try it to believe it for yourself.
